গ্রামের সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে ব্যাংকিং সেবা পৌঁছে দেয়ার অন্যতম মাধ্যম হলো এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং। যেখানে গ্রামের সহজ-সরল মানুষেরা আংগুলের ছাপের মাধ্যমে (বায়োমেট্রিক সিস্টেম) একাউন্ট খোলা, টাকা উত্তোলন, হিসাব পরিচালনা, ফান্ড ট্রান্সফার এমনকি ইএফটি, আরটিজিএস পর্যন্ত করতে পারবে। সবচেয়ে বড় সুবিধা হলো, এই সিস্টেমে গ্রাহকের টাকা জমা দেয়ার রশিদ পর্যন্ত লেখা লাগে না। সফটওয়্যার জেনারেটেড অটো প্রিন্টেড রশিদ গ্রাহকের হাতে দেয়া হয়। এটাকে আরও নিরাপদ করার জন্য টাকা জমা, টাকা উত্তোলনসহ যে কোন লেনদেনের ক্ষেত্রে গ্রাহকের রেজিষ্টার্ড মোবাইলে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে এসএমএস প্রেরণ করা হয়।
এজেন্ট আগেই ব্যাংকের কাছে নির্দিষ্ট পরিমাণ টাকা জমা দিয়ে, সেই টাকার মধ্যেই লেনদেন করে অর্থাৎ প্রিপেইড সিস্টেম মডেল হওয়ার কারণে সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যাংকের জন্যও এটা নিরাপদ অর্থাৎ ব্যাংকের জন্য ফিনানশিয়ালি রিস্ক থাকে না। আবার e-KYC প্রবর্তনের ফলে ব্যাংক, কাস্টমারের ফিংগার প্রিন্ট ‘জাতীয় নির্বাচন কমিশনে’ রক্ষিত কাস্টমারের NID এর ফিংগার প্রিন্টের সাথে মিলিয়ে নিতে পারে। এর ফলে প্রকৃত গ্রাহককে সনাক্তকরণের কাজটি নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায়। তাই হিসাব খোলা সম্পর্কিত জালিয়াতি এভাবে রোধ করা সম্ভব।

তবে, বিচ্ছিন্নভাবে কিছু কিছু দুর্ঘটনা যে মোটেই ঘটবে না, তা কিন্তু বলা যাবে না। কারণ আমাদের দেশের জন্য এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং সম্পূর্ণ নতুন একটি বিষয়। পরিপক্বতার জন্য যথেষ্ট সময় প্রয়োজন। নানা ধরনের সমস্যা আসবে, ব্যাংকগুলো সেই সমস্যা সমাধানের জন্য নানা রকম পদক্ষেপ নেবে। এভাবেই আস্তে আস্তে এটা পরিপক্বতা লাভ করবে। আমাদের কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকও এ ব্যাপারে যথেষ্ট সোচ্চার আছে।

নিয়মিত মনিটরিং, নিরীক্ষার আওতায় আনা, নির্দিষ্ট সময় অন্তে বিভিন্ন রকমের সচেতনামূলক প্রোগ্রাম করা (বিশেষ করে প্রতিটা লেনদেন, ব্যাংক প্রেরিত এসএমএস-এর সাথে মিলিয়ে নেয়ার অভ্যাস গড়ে তোলা), হেড অফিস কর্তৃক সাডেন ভিজিট, তথ্য-প্রযুক্তির মাধ্যমে হেড অফিস থেকে লেনদেন মনিটরিং করা, ক্ষেত্র বিশেষে হেড অফিস থেকে র‍্যানডম বেসিস কাষ্টমারকে ফোন করে লেনদেন সম্পর্কে নিশ্চিত হওয়াসহ নানা ধরনের পদক্ষেপ গ্রহনের মাধ্যমে দূর্ঘটনা বহুলাংশে কমিয়ে আনা সম্ভব।
